rankings and commentary FOR FREE for Week Two.

If Week 1 was any indication of what’s to come, Lamar Jackson is the QB1, Austin Ekeler is the GOAT, and surprise, surprise, the Patriots are winning the Super Bowl. We have a lot of football left to play, specifically Fantasy Football. It’s appropriate to react to Week 1 but we have to try our best not to overreact. Below I have a player at each position that I am higher on this week compared to the consensus. As always, if you have a lineup question, start the player that I have ranked higher.

QB

Should Josh Allen be ranked as a Top-10 QB in Week 2? Is that an overreaction? There is no doubt Allen has a lot of work on as a passer in the NFL but one way to hide those deficiencies is to face the New York Giants. The Giants just got torched by Dak Prescott and the Cowboys to the tune of 405 passing yards and four touchdowns. Rookie cornerback DeAndre Baker got torched for 132 yards and a touchdown in his first regular-season game and let’s just say that won’t be the last time. Allen is in a really good spot against this secondary and in Week 1, he led all quarterbacks with 10 rushing attempts and a rushing touchdown. Sure, he’ll turn the ball over but that should be mitigated by his rushing production. I’m bullish on Allen and would even start him over Cam Newton and Aaron Rodgers in Week 2.

RB

I was bullish on Latavius Murray heading into the season, mainly because of the team he landed with. Over the past three seasons, there has been a direct correlation between the team’s defense and Drew Brees’ pass attempts. As the defense has improved, Brees hasn’t been asked to throw as much. Additionally, over the past two seasons, the Saints have led the NFL in rushing touchdowns. Murray only had six carries in Week 1, but that included a 30-yard touchdown. Murray now has 35 career rushing touchdowns in 78 games. Expect the Saints to play keep away with the Rams with a heavy dose of Murray and Alvin Kamara. Last week the Rams allowed 128 rushing yards and 6.7 yards per carry to Christian McCaffrey. I’m not boosting Murray into RB2 territory or anything but he’s in a good spot as a high-end flex option.

WR

This seems like a slam dunk and I’m not really sure what the consensus is missing here. To be fair, last time I wrote that I suggested Jimmy Garoppolo was a good play in Week 1. Apologies for that, by the way. Regardless, Tyrell Williams is the consensus WR27 this week and I have him all the way up at WR15. He’s a must-play against this Chiefs defense, the same defense that just got shredded by Gardner Minshew! Williams played on 52-of-55 snaps in Week 1 against the Broncos, consistently dominating them. Williams finished with a 6-105-1 receiving line on seven targets (27% target share). It was very clear (at least in Week 1) that the Raiders offense will be concentrated on Williams, Darren Waller, and Josh Jacobs. Ryan Grant and Hunter Renfrow will not demand many targets, which also bodes well Williams. Trust him as a high-end WR2 heading into this matchup against the Chiefs.

TE

Obviously, if you lost Hunter Henry, you should have targeted TJ Hockenson and Darren Waller. If you missed out on those guys, maybe you were able to snag the old reliable Vernon Davis and Jimmy Graham crew. Well, if you missed out on all of those, I have a deeper sleeper for you. In fact, it’s the same tight end I recommended last week: Noah Fant. Fant didn’t do much in Week 1, catching 2-of-4 targets for 29 yards. However, he was on the field for 50-of-62 snaps, even running 30 routes. While the Bears defense is a great one, they just allowed six receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown to Packers tight ends last week. If you’re in a real pinch, Fant is in a solid spot.
