Winning at any salary cap game comes down to finding values and correctly constructing a roster to maximize points. That makes smart money management key. For NFL Wild Card Weekend play, here are some good value picks to make for Fan Duel.
Quarterbacks
Aaron Rodgers - $9,600
Green Bay is easily projected for the most points this weekend with 31.5. The next highest is the Ravens at 26.2, but the Packers are far more likely to throw the ball downfield. Rodgers is the most expensive FanDuel player, but he is also projected by far to have the best week with nearly 295 passing yards, and 2.8 touchdowns. This week he will finally have all four of his receivers in the lineup: Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and James Jones are all expected to play. That’s great news for Rodgers, and bad news for Minnesota.
Wide Receivers
Reggie Wayne - $6,600
Wayne is the sixth most expensive receiver, but is projected for the 3rd most receiving yards this week behind A.J. Green and Andre Johnson. He is also projected for nearly 6 catches, most of every receiver except Johnson. The Colts are big underdogs, and Andrew Luck will need to rely on Wayne to move the chains.
Running Backs
DuJuan Harris - $4,900
RB is probably the only spot this week where you can find a real value in order to conserve dollars for other positions. Harris got 14 carries last week compared to just 2 for Ryan Grant, and he probably will get the most carries once again. With the game being held at Lambeau, expect Green Bay to continue to focus on running the ball to maintain a semblance of balance. The Packers are more likely to be leading early at home as well compared to Week 17, and that would lead to more carries. Harris is easily the cheapest “starter” at this spot this week.
Defenses
Green Bay Packers - $5,200
Houston Texans - $5,000
These are the two cheapest defenses this week, but are projected to allow the fewest points. The Packers are allowing just 18.5 points to the Vikings while the Texans are allowing just 18.0 points to the Colts. Both teams are at home with the Packers projected to force 1.9 turnovers, the Texans 1.7. Of the two, I would lean towards the Packers because of the fact that the game will be played at Lambeau which should severely limit any success for Christian Ponder, and limit points in general. Ponder is projected to throw more interceptions that touchdowns. Andrew Luck has shown all season that he can make plays despite a poor offensive line. Basically Luck can make plays out of the nothing while Ponder can’t.
