Big Ben’s Injury Impact: Steelers vs Chiefs

Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been nursing his knee for last three games. Michael Vick was filling Big Ben’s shoes reasonably well in the first two games, but was replaced by their third string QB, Landry Jones in the last game.

Jones will most probably start in Kansas City on Sunday when Steelers meet Chiefs. His performance week ago was good, and his resume from the Oklahoma University is filled with all kind of passing records. He replaced Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford during 2009 season and added up over 16000 passing yards until 2012 season. How this kind of numbers will reflect in his game in NFL?

Accuscore has simulated PIT@KC game over 10000 times with both QBs. Even though Las Vegas numbers give only 2 points to Chiefs when Jones starts, we think that home team has better chances for winning. We forecast that Jones throws over 200 yards and his predicted QBR hovers around 70. Chiefs are battling with their key injury when RB Jamal Charles is out of the season, but they should win this comfortably against Steelers.

How about if Roethlisberger is back? When all other variables unchanged, Steelers would be 3 point road favorite with their star QB on the helm. Big Ben’s passing yards are forecasted to reach 270 and QBR to be around 100. With these numbers it seems that fielding Jones instead of 100% fit Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers move from 3 point favorite to 6 point underdog.
