Last season was all Toronto, who led the regular season and went all the way to lift the trophy after magnificent playoff-run. Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore got the job done up front and the defense was solid through and through. Toronto is still number one favorite according to both Accuscore’s simulations and sportsbooks.
Last year’s runners up, Seattle are still considered contenders but at least in regular season they’re no match for overwhelming Toronto. Portland gathers more points in the regular season as well, taking the top spot in the western conference. According to simulations, it’s once again extremely close down the line, with several teams fighting for top-2 seeding as well as the remaining playoff spots.
In the figure you can see Accuscore’s simulated season forecast for both conferences. First number on the left is the team’s overall projected position according to Accuscore’s simulations. The number on the right, after the point total indicates the team’s average position according to bookmakers.

As we can see, the bookmakers are in a similar mind for the close race for the playoffs. There are eight teams with similar odds to win the cup in the middle of the pack, while the top teams of Toronto, New York City, Seattle and Atlanta go with the lowest odds. In Accuscore simulations, New York Red Bulls and Los Angeles Galaxy are the most notable teams on the rise, while no surprises are seen at the bottom of the table.
