1. Calvin Johnson (DET): Johnson seems locked to be the number one projected wide receiver every week that Detroit plays a game. Last week Megatron had his fourth 100 yard game and added another touchdown to his season total. With Jahvid “Soundwave” Best likely to sit week eight, Coach Jim “The Fallen” Schwartz will have to rely on the passing attack led by Matt “Starscream” Stafford. Luckily they play the Denver Broncos, who are a below average defensive team, this Sunday. Projected fantasy points: 16.2.
2. Mike Wallace (PIT): Mike Wallace takes the second spot this week after his third straight game with a touchdown. Wallace has 730 receiving yards and five touchdowns on the season. He is in position to have a big week eight as the Steelers are playing the Patriots, who give up the most passing yards per game. Projected fantasy points: 14.0.
3. Wes Welker (NE): Welker had a poor performance last week, in comparison to his play in previous weeks. He caught six passes for 45 yards and a touchdown. Despite the slight dip in receiving yards, Welker still has 785 yards and six touchdowns on the season. This week the Patriots offense faces the tough Steelers defense. Tom Brady is going to spread out the Steelers defense, which should free up Welker for plenty of receptions throughout the game. Projected fantasy points: 12.5.
4. Dwayne Bowe (KC): Dwayne Bowe takes the fourth spot as the Kansas City Chiefs are turning their season around with three straight victories. Bowe has been Matt Cassel’s favorite target all season. Against the Chargers on Sunday expect Bowe to finish with around 75 yards and a touchdown. Projected fantasy points: 11.4.
5. Steve Johnson (BUF): Steve Johnson has quietly put up great numbers for the Bills this season. He has caught four touchdowns in seven games and has nearly 400 yards receiving. Buffalo’s offense continues to click on all cylinders, so expect another solid game from Johnson in the week eight matchup against the Washington Redskins. Projected fantasy points: 11.4.
Not top 5, but could be: This week’s wide receiver that missed the cut but is in position to have a big game is the Giants’ Hakeem Nicks. Nicks is Eli Manning’s favorite receiving option and has accumulated over 500 yards receiving and three touchdowns in six games this season. Against the poor Dolphins defense I’m expecting Nicks to have another 100 plus yards and a touchdown game. Projected fantasy points: 10.1.
