1. Calvin Johnson (DET): Megatron is number one yet again, despite no touchdowns in a 100 yard receiving game against the Niners. Matt “Starscream” Stafford connected with Johnson on seven passes, but with the San Francisco defensive line limiting the running game led by Jahvid “Soundwave” Best, the secondary was free to lock down on the receivers. This week the Lions play the Falcons at home. Atlanta is one of the worst teams in the league at defending the pass so expect Johnson to find the endzone this week. Projected fantasy points: 17.5.
2. Greg Jennings (GB): The gap between first and second this week is surprisingly large considering Jennings is a top-notch receiver with a great quarterback feeding him the ball. Jennings had a decent game last week catching six passed for 82 yards. This week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings should be a good one for fantasy owners as the Vikings have a poor passing defense. Projected fantasy points: 11.9.
3. Dwayne Bowe (KC): Matt Cassel’s favorite target is coming off his best game of the season. Bowe caught seven passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. He is in position to continue his recent success this week against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders have a weak secondary that gives up around 280 yards receiving per game. Projected fantasy points: 11.3.
4. Mike Wallace (PIT): Mike Wallace takes the fourth spot this week. Wallace only caught two passes last week against the Jags, but they were big ones as the wide out had 76 receiving yards and a touchdown. Wallace has scored four touchdowns in six games this year and is cementing his role as the Steelers most dangerous offensive weapon. In week seven the Steelers play the Arizona Cardinals, so expect Wallace to put up good numbers. Projected fantasy points: 11.1.
5. Miles Austin (DAL): Miles Austin has missed two games this year because of injury, but still has over 300 yards receiving and four touchdowns on the season. Austin is capable of breaking out with a big game every week, and the table is set this week against the St. Louis Rams. Miles Austin looks set to impress at home at against a poor defense. Projected fantasy points: 10.9.
Not top 5, but could be: This week’s wide receiver that just missed the cut but is capable of having a break out game is New Orleans’ Marques Colston. Colston had his best game of the season last week catching seven passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. The Saints play a struggling Colts team this week. I expect Colston to get plenty of looks from Brees and to repeat his week six performance. Projected fantasy points: 8.4.
