1. Vernon Davis (SF): The tight end of the hot San Francisco 49ers wins the top spot this week. Davis is coming off his best touchdown performance of the season, scoring twice on three catches. The Niners face a Lions defense on Sunday that is decent, and is capable of putting a lot of pressure on the quarterback. If Alex Smith has the time, he’ll get the ball into Davis’ hands. Projected fantasy points: 10.9.

2. Jason Witten (DAL): Jason Witten continues to be Dallas’ most reliable receiving option. Although fantasy owners wish his number was called more often near the end zone, he finishes with at least good yardage every game. This week the Cowboys face the awful pass defense of the Patriots, so expect Witten to have another solid day. Projected fantasy points: 10.7.

3. Rob Gronkowski (NE): Witten counterpart on New England takes the third spot this week. Gronkowski started off the season on fire, scoring five touchdowns in the first three games. Since then, he has caught only five passes for 46 yards and no touchdowns. However, he is still second in receptions on the team and a must start for any fantasy owner. Projected fantasy points: 9.6.

4. Jermichael Finley (GB): So far this season Finley has had one big game, where he scored three touchdowns and the rest have been decent for the most part. To owners thinking of sitting him, remember that he plays for one of the most potent offenses in the league. Expect at the least 60 yards receiving, and possibly a score. Projected fantasy points: 9.5.

5. Aaron Hernandez (NE): The fact that two tight ends from the same team can end up in the top five for fantasy points in a given week is a testament to the Patriots passing game. This is not the first time the Hernkowski duo has appeared on this list. Brady always finds a way to distribute the ball to all of his receiving options, and Hernandez’s number has been called for red zone work multiple times this season. Projected fantasy points: 9.3.

Not top 5, but could be: This week’s tight end that missed the cut is New Orlean’s Jimmy Graham. Like Jermichael Finley, it’s hard to pass on a tight end that has a great quarterback and gets plenty of looks. Graham has caught 32 passes this year for just under 500 yards receiving and three touchdowns. The Tampa Bay defense won’t be able to stop New Orleans, so make sure Graham is in your lineup. Projected fantasy points: 8.3.
