1. Aaron Rodgers (GB): Aaron “this belt is so snug” Rodgers is the top projected fantasy quarterback yet again. I could talk about next week’s matchup with the St. Louis Rams, but that feels a little unnecessary. All you need is his stat line, so here it is: 1,721 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, two interceptions, and an average passer rating of 122.9. Projected fantasy points: 25.8.
2. Tom Brady (NE): Tom “it took too long to get my hair cut” Brady takes the second spot after another solid game against the New York Jets last week. His numbers have been less ridiculous than they were at the start of the season, but he’s still a lock for 300 yards passing and multiple touchdowns every week. His next opponent will be the Cowboys, who have a middle of the pack passing defense. Brady won’t let you down. Projected fantasy points: 23.0.
3. Michael Vick (PHI): Michael “I swear I’m worth all the money you gave me” Vick takes the third spot despite a turnover filled game against the Buffalo Bills last week. He threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns, but added four interceptions as well. The Eagles opponents in week six are the Washington Redskins, who are a good defensive team. History and the statistics tell us that Vick, despite recent trouble, is likely to put up big numbers. Projected fantasy points: 21.2.
4. Cam Newton (CAR): Cam “there’s no way you thought I would be this good” Newton is number four. Newton is not part of the elite class yet, but he’s playing very well for a rookie and is capable of big numbers any given Sunday. This week looks promising because he will be attacking an Atlanta Falcons defense that is near the bottom of the league in opponent passing yards. Expect Cam to be successful this weekend at home. Projected fantasy points: 19.8.
5. Drew Brees (NO): Drew “I don’t need the spotlight to take care of business” Brees rounds out the pack this week. Every week, Brees’ exceptional play gives his team the best chance at winning the game. Against the Panthers, he threw for 359 yards and two touchdowns. Expect Brees to continue to pick defenses apart when he faces a subpar Bucs defense on Sunday. Projected fantasy points: 18.7.
Not top 5, but could be: This week’s quarterback that missed the cut but is primed for a big game is Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger. I’m pretty sure Big Ben plays his best football when he’s banged up, and last week is my exhibit a. Roethlisberger threw for 228 yards and five touchdowns, which tied a team record. This weekend he’ll be at home against a struggling Jaguars team, so I’m expecting another big performance. Projected fantasy points: 17.9.
