SEC – 2015 College Football Preview

The SEC - the almighty college football powerhouse - hasn't won a national title in two seasons. Regardless of this downward trend, however, there is little doubt to just how tough the conference is - especially in terms of depth of talent. With the likes of Georgia, Auburn, Alabama and LSU, there are plenty of other schools that will be in the playoff hunt.

Most experts and members of the media are picking Auburn to win the SEC. With Muschamp at the helms, Auburn has plenty of hope on the defensive end to go along with an offense that should have no problems with QB Jeremy Johnson calling the shots. Muschamp - known for his Florida teams that consistently were dominant defensively - has the pedigree to turn defensive end Carl Lawson into a national sensation.

Whereas Auburn's success will be determined by improved play on defense, Alabama's will be at the mercy of an offense that still doesn't have a starting QB. Whether it's David Cornwell or Jake Coker, the focus will be on consistency, regardless of who.

There is no shortage of hype when it comes to the rest of the SEC, even the less notable teams. In 2014, both Mississippi State and Ole Miss started the season 7-0, before going on to both lose in bowls on New Year's. Each program will be looking to build from a strong past season. Although Arkansas and Tennessee struggled last season, they both return familiar bodies whose chemistry should result in more wins this season.

SEC Games to Watch

Arkansas @ Alabama (Week 6): Last year, Alabama barely defeated Arkansas, 14-13. The 2015 Arkansas roster could be even more potent and it'll have to be with a road game in Alabama followed by a home matchup vs Auburn the following week (Oct. 17). No one necessarily expects Arkansas to win either game, but it'll be fun to see how competitive they can be.

AccuScore projects an absolute domination by Alabama, giving Arkansas just a 3 percent chance of winning.

Oklahoma @ Tennessee: Tennessee gets a chance to test their potential early in the season with a matchup against Oklahoma in Week 2. Oklahoma wasn't all that impressive in 2014 and will be looking to make a point this season. Can a Volunteers' team with 17 returning starters make some noise with a win here?

AccuScore has Oklahoma as 57 percent favorites to win this game. The average score after 10,000 simulations is 31-28.
