College Football Preseason Rankings:
Independents, Sun Belt, and WAC

2012 Independents College Football Rankings

This will be Brian Kelly’s third season as head coach of Notre Dame, but don’t expect a return to national contender status quite yet. The schedule is brutal, and quarterback has yet to be settled. Navy will be looking to return to a bowl for the ninth time in 10 seasons. BYU is also a bowl contender.

2012 Sunbelt Preseason Projections

Mario Cristobal stuck around FIU, and his team will be the Sun Belt favorite before departing for Conference USA in 2013. After a school record eight wins last year, FIU is projected to match that and has a 26 percent chance at winning the conference. The biggest competition figures to come from Gus Malzahn and Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette.

2012 WAC Preseason Projections

Louisiana Tech won its first WAC title in a decade, and is the favorite to repeat again in 2012. The Bulldogs will try to win another championship before jumping ship to Conference USA against a league that no longer features Hawaii, Nevada, or Fresno State. Utah State has started to emerge in recent seasons, and is a big threat to Louisiana Tech for the WAC title. The Aggies could thrive in this new-look conference.
