Last night, both the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes played at home with new coaches. Both teams lost, ruining opening night for the new guys in charge. The Capitals hosted the St. Louis Blues and dropped the contest 1-2. The Blues shut down Alex Ovechkin, holding him to just one assist and one shot on goal. The Hurricanes faced the Florida Panthers and were outscored singlehandedly by Shawn Matthias, who scored twice in the third period to clinch the 3-1 win.

In New York, the red-hot Rangers put on an incredible second period display in their 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The New Yorkers scored all four of their goals in the second, each coming from a different player and two on power plays. In Vancouver, goaltender Cory Schneider is making a push for the starting spot over Robert Luongo. Schneider finished the game with an impressive 47 saves and allowed just one goal.

Tonight there are five games scheduled, and a few interesting picks to make. If you want to see the picks you’ll have to sign up for an ALL-ACCESS membership.
