Astros and Mariners all tied up in Seattle

The MLB leading Houston Astros reached 50 wins two days ago, the first team to do so in 2017 season. Milestone victory took place on the road at Oakland, after which the Astros travelled to Seattle to take on the Mariners. Mariners didn’t much care for the hype and blasted Astros out of the ballpark with 13-3 win in the first game of a three-game series. Astros, however, bounced back right away and took the spoils yesterday with a 2-5 road win.

The divisional rivals have met nine times this season, with the Astros winning six, including three out of five on the road. Astros are the best road team in MLB, boasting a record of 28-9 as a visitor. However, Mariners are an excellent home team with a record of 25-14, 3rd best in AL.

The deciding game tonight at Safeco Field sees Mariners starting pitcher Ariel Miranda make his 15th appearance, while Astros go with youngster Francis Marters, who will take the mound in his 3rd start of the season. Miranda has posted 6-3 record with six quality starts and an ERA of 4.04. Martes is yet to record a QS and his ERA is 5.02 with only 14.1 innings pitched.

While Astros boast a heavy hitting squad, with some remarkable outfield players, Mariners have already shown they’re able to match and better the Houston team in all areas of the game. It’s unlikely to be a blowout like the first issue of the series, but according to Accuscore’s simulations, the Mariners should do a lot better than the odds indicate. There’s great value of 6.4% in the home team win!
