With only one round of group stage games remaining in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, we’ve now taken a long hard look at what the teams have to offer. Over four days of simultaneous group play, the field of 32 will be cut in half to 16.

Most importantly, though, the initial look at the teams helps us find value using AccuScore’s computer. We’ve brought back our former Soccer Guru to make picks for the World Cup using the computer. For the final group stage round, here’s what he says:

Top 3 Picks: World Cup Group Stages — Round 3

LOSER (-100) 1. Croatia vs Mexico: Croatia to win at 2.760

Mexico has played well and Mexican goal keeper Guillermo Ochoa had the most outstanding performance in between the posts as of yet. However, Croatia is a side that took the lead on Brazil and only fell behind on a referee error. Considering the odds, the line of 2.760 for Croatia to win provides has value based on AccuScore’s computer. For a team playing for a win with top quality, nearly tripling your money on betting on the slight favorite is worth the gamble.

WINNER (+180) 2.England vs Costa Rica: Costa Rica at 4.380 and Draw at 3.800: Split bet

England was hard-done by better competition and some harsh luck. Although England is not a bad side, the World Cup is over for the English. Costa Rica may rest some key players, but picking both the draw and the Costa Rica win provides bettors 28.8% probability of the Costa Rica win and 27.0% probability of the draw. If the draw hits, a $100 wager would net $180 in winnings ($280 in totals winnings minus $100 bet on Costa Rica to win). If Costa Rica wins, which is possible, the net winnings amount to $238 ($338 gross winnings minus $100 wagered on the draw). Considering the odds and the fact that the Costa Ricans are still playing for top spot in the group, this bet definitely has value.

WINNER (+123) 3. Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Iran: Bosnia to win at 2.230

This is a straight computer play. The oddsmakers give Bosnia a 44% chance of winning, but the AccuScore computer puts that number at 60%. Considering how Bosnia played the first couple matches, this team will be hoping to walk away from the tournament with its first ever win. Already eliminated, Bosnia is the favorite and is playing for the pride of being in its first World Cup. Better than even odds and 60% of the probability makes for a good value wager.
