College Football: Game of the Week

Pac-12 Showdown: UCLA @ Cal Berkeley

The season started with such high hope for UCLA. Back-to-back losses to Utah and Oregon, however, put a sour note to a potentially wasted season. UCLA hasn't won up in Berkeley since 1998. It just might be about time to turn around that trend and this season.

UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley should have a monster performance this weekend. The Cal defense gives up over 400 yards per game, last in the nation. Cal gives up 38.8 pts/game, UCLA averages 35 per. The Bruins should have a fairly smooth sailing ahead if they can contain the Cal offense led by QB Jared Goff. The offense can definitely fix many of its errors from last week - 3 fumbles from a team’s starting QB just isn't something that happens often. It'll be a great matchup of two young QBs - the one who takes cares of the ball better will come out with the win.

NFL: Game of the Week

San Francisco 49ers @ Denver Broncos

There was once a time when Peyton Manning was somewhat close to becoming a 49er. Well, sort of. Coach Jim Harbaugh tried to get Manning to SF, but ultimately received a phone call from the future hall-of-famer that he wouldn’t be signing there. It’s probably fair to assume Harbaugh will have his team ready to go for this Sunday’s matchup.

The Niners have won three games in a row, each week setting the tone on the defensive end. Each of their opponents (PHI, KC, STL) had entered their matchups against SF averaging 33.6 pts/game, 37.5 and 29.5, respectively. Denver enters this week averaging 36 pts/game.

Will the loss of Patrick Willis be too much of a hit for the 49ers' defensive unit? In what could be a potential Super Bowl preview, the Niners will once again have to dig deep to find a way to come out on top.
