to the world of Fantasy Football. I have fallen in love with DFS leagues and drafting a new team every week. I enjoy checking trends, injury reports and starting with a fresh slate every single week. While I won in Week 1, I wasn’t as successful in Week 2 and finished with 97.08 points. I know Tom Brady would be back to his normal GOAT self and Touchdown Tommy finished with 30.78 points on a great afternoon of slinging the rock around the yard.

Michael Crabtree came up big for the second week in a row and delivered 29 points, but after that my team fell flat. Le’Veon Bell limped in with 11.1 points, Sammy Watkins was irrelevant, but not as much as Jimmy Graham, who didn’t score 1 single point. That didn’t help, at all.

So now I am ready for Week 3, we might talk about that in just a minute. However, this week we have something far deeper to get into. This week I was asked by my closest group of friends in Connecticut to join their Fantasy League. I would be coming into the league after Week 2, with the record of that team being whatever happened after Week 2 and the roster intact. I was invited into the league because the gentleman that originally drafted did not pay league dues in a timely fashion and the league founder wanted to cut ties and move on. I was invited to join the league for half the cost of what everyone else pays for their teams and transaction fees being $3.00 a move. I agreed to this deal. The league owner and I decided to give the original owner until Monday, midday to make good on his investment, and if he didn’t the team was mine. All was good, I was going to be in a Fantasy league with some great friends.

Then the drama started, as it always does with one particular friend. This friend thought it was outrageous that I was going to join the league and only have to pay half the dues, threw a temper tantrum, put the entire league in disarray to the point where I simply said I was no longer interested in joining the league.

I was doing them a favor! I was joining an already established league with a team that I did not draft and was coming in after 2 games had already been decided. Half is more than fair. First of all, the draft is the most fun part of any Fantasy League and I would have missed that. Secondly, the original owner didn’t pay and didn’t set a great lineup for either Week 1 or Week 2. Finally, this wouldn’t be my team. It wouldn’t be my true team for an entire season. Oh, not to mention the amount of transactions I would have made trying to make it my true team.

So the aforementioned friend who caused the chaos thought it was best to leave a team dormant for an entire season, have zero come from one franchise in transaction fees, not field a competitive team and thus a competitive league and take ZERO over half of something towards a season ending pot. The real dagger? Keeping a friend out of a league. That is the sword that hurt the most.

It caused a weekend of unnecessary drama, ruined friendships, caused this whole thing to look Bush League and it could have easily been resolved. I do feel badly for the league commissioner and founder who became the victim of a bully.

Fantasy Football can certainly bring out the ugly in people and the worst part about the whole thing is I was just trying to help some friends out and have some fun. I will talk about Week 3 in my next piece, for now, I need to rest and rethink friendships that have spanned decades.

Good luck to everyone this weekend.
