Patrick Mahomes as their starting quarterback. Mahomes presents more big-play promise, but with that may come some headaches in his first year as a starter. He has the weapons to work with in this offense to be successful, but odds are turnovers will be an issue early on. Mahomes will be picked as a QB2 in Fantasy drafts, but has the upside with his rushing potential to push into the QB1 discussion by year’s end.
Expect for much of the Chiefs offense to go through Kareem Hunt in 2018. Coming off an electric rookie season, Hunt will be looking to exceed the lofty expectations he will have for the 2018 season. He did everything you want from your RB1 last season, rushing yardage and receptions with scoring. Look for similar numbers from Hunt in 2018, although I do expect for his receiving numbers to increase in his second year. Hunt will be drafted as an RB1 sometime late in round one or into round two, but should easily return that value.
The receivers for the Chiefs seem to be one-trick ponies. Both Tyreek Hill and the newly-acquired Sammy Watkins both excel in making plays down the field. Neither give you confidence in their work over the middle of the field. That is the main job of Travis Kelce. The TE is coming off the board in most drafts as the top player at his position and you can’t really argue that. Hill likely will be seen as a WR2 in drafts and Watkins could be a WR3, but I see him more as a Flex player in this offense.
Going into the draft, expect the Chiefs to really go after the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback will be a major concern for this team during the draft as well as finding additions to the front seven.
