Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots
Both the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots are on the doorsteps of immortality. That phrase may be overused when a one-off team makes it to the Super Bowl, but these are no ordinary teams. The Seahawks are the defending Super Bowls Champions, so winning another game puts them in a special category of sports teams that won back-to-back titles.
For Tom Brad and Bill Belichick, the controversy of cheating will not be nearly as meaningful if the Patriots win their fourth Super Bowl in 14 years. Incidentally, This Super Bowl would be the first one to take back to New England in 11 years. Brady and Belichick have been great for a long time, but they have not won the big game in, well, a long time.
Both teams have a great deal to play for in terms of history that goes beyond any single season. If New England fails, Brady and Belichick will be known as much for their three Super Bowl losses as they will be known for their three Super Bowl wins. The Seahawks have the pressure of returned as Champions and mirroring the accomplishment the Patriots managed in Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX. An easier way to say that would be 2003 and 2004.
