WEEK 14 PICK 5

Gabriel Gold here to say that if you are still reading this blog after my recent struggles, thank you for your continued support and faith and I won't let you down.  I have five winners for you this week, that's right we are shooting for the moon, a perfect Sunday.  First pick: Jacksonville -10.5 over Carolina.  Carolina's offense is pathetic.  They are probably gonna start Vinny althought that doesn't mean he will finish, and if he doesn't, rookie Matt Moore(who????? exactly) will have a 50/50 shot of getting on the field.  Carolina will try to run the ball against the 8th ranked Jag rush defense, to no avail.  Steve Smith has been nearly invisible and it's too bad for them that Delhomme went down early because he was playing like the Super Bowl Jake Delhomme, but back to this week's game.  Carolina will have trouble scoring any points in this game and will not be able to stop the rushing tandem for Jacksonville.  Garrard will return to error free football and the Jags will roll, Jacksonville 27-Carolina 10.  Second pick: San Diego +1 at Tennessee.  This line has moved from -1 to +1 in recent days whatever that is about.  The Chargers appear to have found some rhythm in recent weeks and even Norv Turner hasn't been able to screw it up.  LT rushed for 117 yards last week in the second half, on just 10 carries, and he is rounding back into form just in time.  San Diego is second to New England in turnover margin at +14 and Tennessee has found themselves error prone the last month, due mainly to falling behind early without the defensive presence of Albert Haynesworth.  Last week, with Haynesworth, they still gave up over 100 yards to Ron Dayne and company despite holding a lead most of the game.  The Titans' best chance in this game is to run the ball well and not turn it over, and the Charger run defense is a little bit vulnerable.  However, the Charger offense will make it hard for Tennessee to stick with the run because I believe they will get up early then force Vince Young into poor decisions as they try to play catch-up.  Tennessee badly needs this game to stay in the thick of the playoff race, but their defense will again let them down this week, San Diego 24-Tennessee 17.  Third pick: Cleveland -3 at the Jets.  New York is coming off of their best game of the year, but it was against the Dolphins.  They are still 29th against the run, 29th in yards per attempt in pass defense and Jamal Lewis  and Derek Anderson will be able to take advantage.  The Jets offensively have been, well, offensive, ranking 28th even after their 40 point explosion last week.  Cleveland's defense is still last but has been improving.  Last week they got jobbed a little bit on the play at the end of the game or they may have won that game.  Anderson has been worse on the road than at home, but he rebounded nicely after a poor start last week and he has been good enough to beat the teams they are suppose to beat on the road.  Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow will be factors as well as Jamal Lewis.  Cleveland may have to hold off a late rally as they try to give it away, but they will hold on and stay right in the heart of the playoff race, Cleveland 30-Jets 24.  Fourth pick: Denver -6.5 against Kansas City.  The Chiefs are in total disarray, losing five straight including to Denver by 16 at Arrowhead.  Kolby Smith has done a great job since taking over the starting duties, but Brodie Croyle is still a little banged up and was ineffective the second half against Denver in the first meeting.  The Chiefs defense may be without leading tackler Donnie Edwards who was hurt in last week's loss to San Diego, and Derrick Johnson will be playing with a heavy heart after losing his father this week and missing practices.  Denver will again have Travis "second hand smoke" Henry and Selvin Young who rushed for over 100 the first time these teams hooked up.  Cutler's play has improved as of late, minus last week's debacle, and the receiving corps has also been playing very well.  Their run defense has again taken a tumble and Kolby Smith may very well get 100 on them, but KC hasn't won in Denver since 2000 and I look for nothing to change this year, Denver 20-Kansas City 10.  Final pick: New England -10.5 against Pittsburgh.  New England has been surviving close scares the last two weeks, but if Belichick digs a little he may stumble across the reason.  He has all but abandoned the run.  I know Brady is outstanding, as well as Moss, Welker, and Stallworth, but you have to at least act as though you may run once in a while.  Ask any defensive coordinator what theire objective is against any opponent and they will tell you it's to make their offense one-dimensional.  New England has been obliging them and allowing two teams with great secondaries, Philly and Baltimore, to drop 8 into coverage which makes it hard for evern Tom Brady to see success.  I know Pittsburgh's defense is #1, but New England will have success if they remember to threaten to run the ball a little.  Pittsburgh has also been figured out lately as Roethlisberger has been getting sacked a lot recently.  The Steelers are also a bad road team at 2-3 with losses to Denver, the Jets, and Arizona, none of whom have a winning record.  This is the second to last hurdle for New England's pursuit of perfection and they will get it done in a big way, New England 38-Pittsburgh 17.  Thanks again for your patience and faith, now let's go and rake it in this week.

Good picks this week DAMAN, agree with ya on JAX, CLE and NE. i also like MIN and TB this week.
oh by the way NFL DWG, TEN is favored in that game, and the spreads -1, so obviously they will win outright if they cover. i wouldnt touch that game though.

I agree with your picks for the most part, especially the NE/PIT game, many people will be looking for the steelers to cover the 11 spread, but I think the patriots will flex some muscle at home this week to show everyone whos 13-0! Not to mention the Steelers are garbage away from Heinz field...

However I disagree with the SD/TEN game, I think TEN will win this won OUTRIGHT, why you ask? I'll tell you, firstly the Chargers are garbage just like the Steelers on the road, and the Titans dont lose at home against teams not called the Colts. H-worth will have a big game stopping the run of LT and when you put the game in the hands of Phillip Rivers you get something magical, its called turnovers! Look for the Titans to lay the hammer on the inconsistent Chargers.
