Trade Deadline One Month AwayPosted by dhmo831 in Untagged |
The NHL trade deadline is Feb. 26, Here are a list of teams and names that might be worth an eye on in the next couple of weeks.
1) Olie Kolzig. I've been a lifetime Caps fan and Kolzig was the best player they had for years but since Ovey has gotten here that has changed and so has Olie's play. I would love to see him win the cup but it will not be in D.C. His save % is .885 which is dreadful for a teams #1 goalie. The Caps need to trade him and try to get some picks for him since he's going to be a UFA next year. I think he would be a good fit for Ottawa, Pittsburghand Toronto.
2) Rob Blake is going to be an UFA after this year and the Kings will not make the playoffs so they should trade him for some draft picks and try to build for the future. I think he would be a good fit with the Rangers.
3) Brian Campbell it's not very often you would talk about an all-star being traded but I don't think Buffalo will have the money to pay him after the big contract they gave Vanek last year and I'm sure they would like to get something for him instead of just losing him by free agency. If Blake doesn't go to New York then Campbell would be the next option.
4) There are 5 big name forwards that will be FA's in the summer. Hossa, Sundin, Jagr, Holik and Federov. If Columbus and Atlanta are close to the playoffs by the end of Feb. I don't think Hossa, Holik or Federov would be traded, if they are out of it I see Holik going back to New Jersey. Federov going back to Detroit and Hossa going to either San Jose or Colorado. I don't think Jagr will be traded. Sundin has a no-trade clause in his contract but I do see him waving it for the right situation like Philadelphia.
5) Another thing that I will be keeping an eye on is the Calder trophy race. The league has a ton of young good players. The 3 this year are Patrick Kane, Johnathan Toews(injured) and N. Backstrom. Kane and Toews have put Chicago on the map again and Backstrom couldn't have it any better than feeding the puck to Ovechkin. I would love to see Backstrom win it but I think it will go to Kane.
6) Last but not least. Crosby being out for a couple of months. If they are to tread water until he comes back there are two players that need to step up and no one of them is not Malkin. Malkin has been scoring and he just needs to continue that. The players are Colby Armstrong who is to good of a player to have 20 points in 42 games. Jordan Stall had a good rookie year and has dropped off, he needs to pick up the pace quickly.
