Thursday Night Picks 9/6Posted by twilliams in Tim Williams, Scorpions NFL System, Scorpion, NFL System, NFL, NCAA Football |
This will be a short post, as I'm taking a break from work and about to do a fantasy draft when I get back. Tonight I like the following:
New Orleans +6
New Orleans ml +200
I like New Orleans in this game, obviously. I think the Colts defense will be weakened from the loss of 5 of their players from last season to free agency. They were already a bad defense, the worst against the run, but had a good stretch in time for the playoffs, which got them a Super Bowl. I think the Saints will do a good job on the ground against them, giving them controlof the game. I also don't believe in Joseph Addai as a full time back. He's split carries his whole college and pro career, and now he's expected to carry a full load? I'm not sure that will work out so well. I'm taking New Orleans to win, and taking the 6 points as insurance.
New Orleans/Indianapolis UNDER 53.5
Call me crazy for being the only person taking the under, but a play like this, where everyone is on one side, just doesn't seem right. Last season only 3 games went over 50 points, and only 1 game went over 53 points. These two teams will be gearing up not to score a ton of points, but to prevent the other team from doing so. Defense will be the primary focus here. In order to go over the 53.5 points, they need 2 touchdowns a quarter, a minimum of 8 scoring drives. Assuming each drive takes about 4 minutes, that's 15 drives a game, which means they need to score a touchdown every other drive to barely cover. I'm taking the under in this one.
Mid Tennessee State +42
Mid Tennessee State played Louisville tough last season, and I look for them to repeat this week. Louisville had a great game last week, but Mid Tennessee is a step up from Murray State. I think Louisville wins, I think Brohm will put up some points in his Heisman campaign, but I don't think they're winning by 6 or more touchdowns.
Cincinnati +3.5
I debated on this one, but I'm taking it because Accuscore has a high percentage on Cinci, and because Oregon State looked pretty flat the first half of last week. It wasn't until the second half that they started putting up points, thanks to their running game. Oregon State might have their top receiver returning tonight, but with a shakey QB situation, I don't think it will help them much. They may win the game, but I think it will be a very close game, decided by a field goal.
I'm working on a video blog for this weekend's NFL games. I'm having problems converting the video over to my Mac, but I've found other solutions, so look for that this weekend. Good luck to everyone!

| Yep, that one loss mixed in with a bunch of wins really killed me. From what I've seen of the game (watching the replay late last night) the Saints didn't do so bad moving the ball, but they couldn't put up any points. The first half is what I expected. They'd keep the Colts offense in check, but I kind of figured they would put up at least a touchdown. The second half they just fell apart completely. Usually I don't take NFC teams over AFC teams, but I don't have much respect for the Colts defense. Maybe they're making some changes though, and maybe it wasn't just luck last season at the end of the year. It's a tale of two stories with that team. |
