They are just kidsPosted by oh_steve in Untagged |
Colorado's shocking upset over Oklahoma taught me a valuable lesson about college football --- these are a bunch of kids playing.
Oklahoma was terrible in all phases of the game. Freshman Sam Bradford had his first bad game, the Sooners couldn't run the ball, the secondary made a ton of mental errors, the pass rush was ineffective, the return coverage stunk (especially on that final punt return by Colorado) and the return game was terible (muffed punt cost them the game).
The fact is, if even one of these units (passing offense, rushing offense, defensiveline, secondary, special teams) did their job in the 4th quarter the Sooners would have hung on.
Oklahoma is a great team and if there were a college playoff I would give them as good a shot at winning the whole thing as anyone else out there. But now they have no shot at a National Championship because every player and coach performed poorly at the same time. Colorado's fans were loud, but not any more hostile than your typical rowdy college game. Oklahoma's kids did not have any clue how to handle a close game since they've been blowing everyone out. Seeing the mental errors pile up on each other was like watching dominos fall ... once it starts, it just keeps going and spreading.
