The Grab Bag 3/5Posted by twilliams in Tim Williams, Grab Bag, AccuScore |
A story I read today detailed about how some Jets players were upset over the money the team has been spending on free agents this off-season. The Jets have spent $142 million in free agency so far this off-season, which brought this comment from an anonymous player:
"You pay guys you don't even know, and the guys in the locker room -- the guys that have your back -- you don't give a damn about them," an anonymous player told The New York DailyNews. "It shows where the loyalty is."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Jets go 4-12 last season? This issue is nothing about loyalty, this is about performance. The Jets gave up the fourth most amount of sacks last season. They respond by spending big on Pro-Bowl guard Alan Faneca, who is one of the best guards in the league, and right tackle Damien Woody. I see nothing wrong with what the Jets are doing. If you have a car that breaks down constantly, and you finally get some money free to improve your situation, are you going to keep putting money in to the car that breaks down, or are you going to splurge on that luxury car that becomes available to you at the right price? The Jets knew what they had, and that's why they made the moves they did.
Two Great Games for Anderson
NHL Picks Tonight
Phoenix +178 - The Coyotes have won 3 of the last 4 games against Dallas, and are winning around 40% of AccuScore simulations tonight. Brad Richards is playing tonight, but is recovering from the flu, which will impair Dallas. A game against Turco is just what Phoenix needs to break out of their slump, especially with their history against him. AccuScore has some good value on Phoenix, and has solid season totals to back this up.
Anaheim -150 and San Jose -150 - The Ducks are on a hot streak, and should extend that streak tonight. The Blackhawks will have their number three goalie in net, who is getting crushed in simulations. San Jose will go up against an Ottawa team that has been struggling, and will be without Daniel Alfredsson. Parlay them together, or play them separate.
YouTube Links
Jon Stewart at the Oscars - I'm not a big fan of the Oscars, mainly because I like entertaining movies, and not the artsy films that get released in December, making every other film through the year seem irrelevant. However, I'm a fan of Jon Stewart, and he's pretty much the only reason I would have watched the Oscars. Luckily there's YouTube, so I can watch only the best part.
Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscars - Pretty funny bit with Jon Stewart, followed by a funny opening monologue.
The Greatest Sport in the World - There is no arguing this fact. I am right. You are wrong if you say anything else.
Jim Carrey is one of my favorite actors and comedians. Below are two acts from his stand up routine back when it was acceptable to wear a polo shirt with four different colors.
Jim Carrey - Holy Men
Jim Carrey - Guns
I love the "This is Sportscenter" commercials, especially the ones with the mascots. The third one is by far my favorite:
Sportscenter 1
Sportscenter 2
Sportscenter 3
Cricket Streaker Gets Leveled - I'll never understand the game, but this is a nice hit.
Top 10 NHL Goals from 04 to 07 - Even if you're not a hockey fan, I'm sure you'll like some of these.
