No sooner had I speculated about some top prospects that could help both their real and fantasy teams immediately two of them received the call to the majors.

- Max Scherzer, who has been utterly dominant so far this season, was brought up to bolster the Arizona bullpen.  No, he won't be taking over the closer role from Brandon Lyon or even the set-up role from Tony Pena.  And it also appears he won't be starting either.  He will be taking the place of Yusmeiro Petit in order to bolster a beleaguered middle relief corps.  Because he had been starting in the minors, the D-Backs think he will be able to go multiple innings in relief and alleviate some stress of the rest of the pen.  It seems a strange move to make, even to help a depleted bullpen because of just how good Scherzer has been this season.  His talent dictates a much larger role than as just a pitcher to mop up innings after the starter makes his exit.

Arizona GM Josh Byrnes has stated Scherzer's future is as a starter so this move might be temporary.  If Scherzer doesn't get enough innings he will likely be sent back down to continue his development, but he should be up for good sometime this season.  Fantasy owners will have to wait and see just how he is utilized at the big league level.  His value as a middle reliever is very low as he simply won't be pitching enough to help your team.  What this does mean is that Scherzer will be hitting the waiver wire, and owners can stash him on the bench.

- An injury to Adam Melhuse created a spot for Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia at the big league level.  Melhuse was told his roster spot would be not there when he recovered in 3-5 weeks so he received his release.  Texas however, already has a starting catcher in Gerald Laird who is still fairly young and is a decent major leaguer.  It appears the two will split time evenly in the starting lineup.  Laird started behind the plate on Friday and Sunday while Saltalamacchia was in on Saturday.  Saltalamacchia has the higher ceiling with the bat however, and can also play some first base so expect to see the Rangers try and make more room for him in the lineup.  His playing time may be erratic in the early going, but his bat is for real.  Once he is in the lineup everyday he will be a top-10 catcher going forward.
