Scherzer Dazzles in DebutPosted by jonlee in MLB, Max Scherzer, Fantasy, Arizona Diamondbacks |
I hope all you fantasy owners weren't sitting and watching recently called-up Max Scherzer mow down Astro after Astro. Instead, I hope you were running to your computers and putting in claims for him in all your fantasy leagues (which is exactly what I did in everyone of my leagues). If for some reason he's still available, snap him up immediately. He's clearly worth any top waiver priority.
I've already gone over just how ridiculous Scherzer's minor league stats have been so far this season, and he showed that his stuff will play just fine in thebig leagues. Arizona starter Edgar Gonzalez lasted just 2.2 innings giving up 8 hits and 6 runs leading Scherzer to be called in and try to keep the Diamondbacks in the game. All the rookie did was pitch 4.1 perfect innings of relief with 7 strikeouts. Not bad for a 23-year old rookie making his major league debut.
This is a case where the player actually exceeded the hype. I was a little bit wary of Scherzer a few weeks ago since many scouting reports said he was an elite talent but might be better suited to relieving. His performance Tuesday night however was electric. He faced 13 Astros, and sent them all down in order and used only 47 pitches to do it. The kid is for real. He will be a prime candidate to replace the struggling Edgar Gonzalez in the rotation, and Randy Johnson remains a serious injury risk. It's only a matter of time before Scherzer forces his way into the rotation which will skyrocket his value.

Arizona rookie Max Scherzer was dominant in his debut.
