Running it upPosted by DAMAN in Untagged |
First of all let me say that this is not an anti-New England blog entry. Say what you want about the Patriots and their apparent attempt at humiliating their opponents, at least it's a team effort. I guess that lost somewhere in the warm, fuzzy feeling that everyone got watching the guy Jon Gruden called Jim Brown wearing number 28, Adrian Peterson, break the all-time single game rushing record is the fact that he should not have been out there. Every week for the last month the media has been bad-mouthing Bill Belichick and the Patriots for running up the score, making commentsabout Tom Brady still being in the game with a 5 touchdown lead. I am good at math and I know that 18 points is only a three score game, but with San Diego having already given up and with only 64 seconds left on the clock, Minnesota, on a second down play, not needing a first down to run out the clock, removes Chester Taylor in favor of the kid who is quickly becoming their franchise player and lets him have one more carry so that he can break a four year old record. Congratulations Mr. Peterson, you picked up 38 garbage yards against a tired and beaten down opponent, granted they were tired and beaten down because of what you did to them in the second half, but you took what should have been a great performance and cheapened it by going for the glory instead of showing some humility and class. So the next time you hear the phrase, "running it up", think Adrian Peterson.

| There's a difference between keeping your starters in to run up the score in an average game, and putting your starter in to allow him to break a pretty significant record. You have to give Peterson the chance at breaking the record after the day he had. As for Brady and the Pats, I wouldn't mind if they were scoring with their backups running the ball, but they keep their starters in, and pass the ball. I think that's the problem everyone has. Up by 5 scores and they're still playing like it's 0-0 in the first quarter. They're screwed if Brady goes down. |
