USC -13.5
Their speedy linebackers give them the perfect combination to shut down Ilinois' read option running attack. If they contained Dennis Dixon, they should do even better against Juice Williams. The O-Line is healthier than it has been all season, and the young recievers that hurt them early have grown up. I give Ron Zook all the credit in the world for a great run this year, but with a month to prepare, I will take Pete Carroll over him 10 times out of 10. Vegas is making a statement with this line. Believe them when they tell you that this willbe the most lopsided bowl game of all.
Illinois St. +2
The wrong team is favored here. The Shockers are the worst shooting team in the Valley and Illinois St. is 4-1 SU and ATS on the road this season. They have never been one of the better teams in the Valley, but could challenge for the title in what is a down year for someof the perenial favorites. Vegas has not caught up with them yet.

I wish I could have gotten to your comment earlier. Its a misconception that USC has a problem with spread offenses. The offense didn't play that well in thos games but the D did fine. They gave up 190 total yds to Wash and 339 to Oregon - way below those teams season average. SC is looking good so far, but we shall see what happens. The offense has not been explosive this year. |

Two of USC's weakest efforts this year came against the spread offense (Oregon and Washington). The Huskies are a horrible team, but they came within 3 of beating USC. I like Illinois' chances to keep this one really close. Another factor: Vegas set the line initially at 13.5, and depending on where you place your bets, the line is either at 13.5 or 14 - despite 62% of the public on USC (even more when you factor in the ML). I honestly think Illinois can win this thing outright. |
