Liriano pitching well at AAAPosted by twilliams in Tim Williams, Rafael Furcal, MLB, John Smoltz, Francisco Liriano, fantasy baseball, AccuScore |
Three injury situations to keep an eye on...
Francisco Liriano - Liriano was horrible in his three starts in the majors this year, with an 11.33 ERA and a 2.71 WHIP. In his final start on April 24th he didn't make it out of the first inning, allowing five hits, three walks, and six earned runs, and only recording two outs. Liriano has since turned things around in the minors, with a 2.77 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 5.54 K/9 ratio, and a 2.77 BB/9 ratio in his last four starts. The last three outings were the first instances this season where Liriano made it to the sixthinning, at any level. With Liriano pitching well at AAA, it is only a matter of time before he is called up, which makes now a great time to buy low on the young Twins ace.
Rafael Furcal - Furcal was eligible to be activated from the DL on Wednesday, and could make his return today. Keep an eye on him when setting your lineups. If Furcal is activated today, you want to get him playing ASAP. Furcal is a top four shortstop with the way he has been playing so far this season.
John Smoltz - Smoltz mentioned something about a set back a few weeks ago, which had the media saying he would be back sometime in June. This caused Smoltz to become angry with the media, giving no status updates. Luckily for us, Bobby Cox indicated that his entire bullpen, which includes Smoltz, Mike Gonzalez, and Rafael Soriano, would be healthy in two weeks. Look for Smoltz to be the closer in a BJ Ryan type fashion, with Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez getting the occasional save when a save is needed two nights in a row.
