Gabe Kapler: Player/ManagerPosted by jonlee in Tony Gwynn Jr, MLB, Milwaukee Brewers, Mike Cameron, Gabe Kapler, Fantasy |
At this time last year, Gabe Kapler was manager of the Greenville Drive the Single-A affiliate for the Boston Red Sox. He had retired after nine major league seasons with four different ball clubs. Now he’s playing centerfield for the Milwaukee Brewers and raking. Mike Cameron is suspended until April 28 for violating baseball’s substance abuse policy, and replacement Tony Gwynn Jr. hit the DL on April 4 with a hamstring injury. In stepped Kapler who has hit .423 with an OPS of 1.410in 26 at-bats as a fill-in. He already has four home runs and 11 RBI. Not bad for someone who was supposed to be the fifth outfielder for the Brewers.
Take a look at Kapler’s home run totals in his past five major league seasons before this year: 2, 1, 6, 4, and 2. Obviously it doesn’t look like he could possibly keep up this pace, and he is sharing time with Gabe Gross in center, but it makes for a great story. Certainly though, fantasy owners should take advantage of Kapler’s hot streak while it lasts, at least until Cameron returns to center full-time at the end of April.

Gabe Kapler has made the most of his opportunity with the Brewers.
