NBA Draft Running Diary

4:37: No surprise here as Chicago takes Derrick Rose to kick off the draft and my running diary. Welcome all. Rose was dominant towards the end of the NCAA season, and combines the size and athleticism rarely seen in a point guard. Don’t worry about a backcourt glut for the Bulls; Rose is way more talented than anybody on the roster.

One of the last ready-made major league prospects has finally been brought up to the bigs.  San Diego’s Chase Headley joined the team over the weekend, and will likely join the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.  The Padres are starved for run production and power (outside of Adrian Gonzalez who is having a monster year) and Headley certainly will help.  A switch-hitter, he has hit 13 home runs, 40 RBI, and 34

Fantasy expectations from the draft

Rookies can help your fantasy team, but taking them is always a gamble.  For every Adrian Peterson story, there are 15 stories like Wali Lundy.  The thing you need to know is that quarterbacks don't do much in their first year, unless they are surrounded by lots of talent.  Runningbacks can be successful, but chances are they play on a horrible team, which means their value is lower than a back with less talent on a better team.  Wide receivers are a crap shoot, but it's not entirely unlikely that a breakout guy can emerge from a horrible receiver situation (Dwayne
