Early Season College Basketball Impressions

UCLA is the best team in college basketball, and nobody can convince me otherwise. Now, they may not win the national title at the end of the year because of how much luck and match-ups play a role in winning six straight games in a tournament setting, but having seen Memphis, UNC, and Kansas play I am very confident in my declaration.

The Bruins have it all. With the addition of freshman big man Kevin Love, UCLA now has a legitimate player to go to in the post and to get points when the offense gets bogged down. He is opening up the perimeter for his teammates

Saturday was an exciting day in college football, chock-full of upsets and text messages saying "did you see that!" The dust has finally settled and what is clear to me is "Shakedown Saturday" didn't really shake up anything. Although Oklahoma, Florida, West Virginia and Texas lost, only the Mountaineers and Longhorns were virtually eliminated from the BCS Title hunt with the Sooners and Gators still very much alive.

A quick viewing guide for week three of college football with teams either getting ready for or opening up conference play all over the country.  Division 1A/FBS games only (luckily for Michigan and Iowa St.)

Game of the Week:

1a) #22 Tennessee at #5 Florida:  The Tim Tebow show finally goes to prime-time against Erik Ainge and the Vols.

1b) #1 USC at #14 Nebraska:  Sam Kellar finally gets another shot at a top-ranked Trojan team, and the Cornhuskers get a chance to rejoin the elite of college football.

"This is truly one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for us," said freshman special teamer Jason Orbott.  Jason plays for the Ohio State Buckeyes. "We expected a really tough battle this year in the Big 10 and now thanks to the generosity in Ann Arbor, it looks like we just have to worry about Wisconsin now."

This has to be the most disastrous fall in the history of sport, barring maybe that "agony of defeat guy" who eats it on the ski jump.  God, that still hurts just thinking about it. Who was that guy? Did he live?

Get out the 'ol college jersey and strike up the band because its Christmas time...in September. While most "traditionalists" wait until December, I am celebrating three-months early with a full slate of college games. It is time to find out if Notre Dame can rebuild, LSU can reload, Ohio State can recover and if Florida will repeat.

The first weekend in September means its time to begin unwrapping 8-months of anticipation, highlighted by the nightcap of Tennessee-Cal. It also means My TIVO is no longer set
