College Football and Michael Vick...who knew?

The College football season is just about to begin, and you're in three camps.  One, you're in the group that can't wait for it to begin.  The pagentry, the tradition, the college football atmosphere, etc.

In the second group lies the NFL fans, who could care less about the beginning of NCAA football.

Finally in the third group stands I.

I used to be in the first group. I couldn't wait for college football season to come around.  I loved the game, the energy, enthusiasm, everything about it.  There wasn't another sport

BCS to Cinderella: Go Make Me a Sandwich...

Despite 99% of college football fans getting on their hands and knees and begging, we are still without a playoff. It’s 2007 and we remain saddled with Bowl tradition and odds are we will have another Championship Game determined by politicking on talk-shows instead of plays on the field. College football presents the rare opportunity where our worst nightmares are confirmed. Where the bully wins and it is in your best interest to step on others in an effort to prop yourself up.

Finding the 2007 NFL Sleeper Teams

Yesterday I talked about the correlation between net points and the divisional standings.  I checked back to 2002 and found that in the majority of cases, the team with the most net points in their division has a better record.  I then decided to analyze each individual record to see the various net point totals for that record over the 5 year span.  Once I had all of the totals, I took the average of each record to find out the average net points of a team with a certain record.  Here were the averages:

12-4:  119
11-5:  74
10-6:  66

It's Christmas in September...

Get out the 'ol college jersey and strike up the band because its Christmas time...in September. While most "traditionalists" wait until December, I am celebrating three-months early with a full slate of college games. It is time to find out if Notre Dame can rebuild, LSU can reload, Ohio State can recover and if Florida will repeat.

The first weekend in September means its time to begin unwrapping 8-months of anticipation, highlighted by the nightcap of Tennessee-Cal. It also means My TIVO is no longer set

System Analyzation: Points Scored

This is my second post of the day, but this is something I have been looking at for a week or so, and I figured I would throw it out there.  As you know, one of my eight system stats is "Points Scored", which gives a good indication of the point scoring capabilities of your offense.  Recently I took a look at the "Net Points" of each team, to see the difference between the points scored and allowed.  What I found was pretty interesting, and could improve the system.  Take a look at the final division standings last year, and their net points:

Busting out the big guns

Over the weekend I went up to Pennsylvania to my friend's bachelor party. On Sunday morning we went to play paintball. I've had some experience with paintball before, playing back when I was in high school, and then playing earlier this year in a tournament with my co-workers. I can't say I'm a big paintball player though, because there's nothing I hate worse than having welts all over my body.

Usually I see two or three welts in a typical paintball outing, and maybe some loss of blood with an arm shot. This time was a bit different. There

The NFL Kicks Every Other Sport's A$$. Deal with it.

The NFL is the greatest sports league in the entire world. Period.  Please don't whine to me about baseball when the most exciting thing that could happen in a game is that one team gets no hits.  The NHL seems to do more to shoot their sport in the foot than to help it.  Soccer?  Are you kidding?   My theory is that soccer is popular because you can not really pay attention to the game at all while you are drinking and singing then lookup at the last minute to catch the only goal of the game.  In football, you have to pay attention. But it's not just

Dining on some fantasy football

I was at my favorite suit store about a month ago, picking up my tuxedo for my wedding.  A conversation started about possible restaurants that may come to the area.  One of the restaurants that we don't have anywhere near us is an Olive Garden.  This was brought up, and one of the salesmen stated that after eating the real stuff in Italy, Olive Garden is horrible.  Now I'm a fan of Olive Garden, although I've never been to Italy.  However, I've had seafood from various costal areas and I still eat at Long John Silvers on occasion.  Sure, the quality

Charlie Weiss is a GENIUS

Posted by oh_steve in Untagged

So the "genius" Charlie Weiss has picked his starting QB, but won't reveal what his "brilliant" brain has decided until Notre Dame takes the field vs Georgia Tech.

As someone who has to help run AccuScore simulations, I'm aggravated to no end that Weiss thinks he's so special that he doesn't have to share info like who's going to start at QB.  Let "non-geniusus" like Wisconsin's Bret Bielama and Florida State's Bobby Bowden tell people who's going to start at QB (Wisconsin Tyler Donovan, Florida St Drew Weatherford

System Updates and Accuscore Strategies

There are two topics I wanted to talk about today, so I figured I would combine them in to one post.  The first topic I will discuss is my NFL system.  I'm not sure if I will have enough time to break down every division and write about them all.  I would like to do a season prediction post, but I don't think I can manage a summary of all 32 teams.  That being said, I do have a plan for the first few weeks of the season.

During the days leading up to the first games of the week, I plan on reviewing past system results for that week.  For example,
