Apologies in advance for the long post, but this is the story of my ongoing battle with HP's poor customer support.It began June 2006, was resolved in August and is now reoccurring as of 2 days ago.In June 06, I was forced to contact HP’s technical support when the hard drive in my laptop died. As my computer was less than 1 year old at the time, it still fell under the
warranty. I thought this would be a simple thing to resolve, but what followed was perhaps one of the most excruciating tech service phone calls in history.

As for Apple, they're like the hot minor league prospect, but I'm not sure that I want to make that call. I hear good reviews of them, but it is hard to get an un-biased review. Either the review comes from an Apple fan and is Pro-Apple, or it comes from a PC fan and the person doesn't use a Mac. There is nothing that I've found that is un-biased. I'm renewing my subscription to Consumer Reports, so maybe that will tell me something.

I can't say I'm unbiased, but when you understand the biases, they can be a better gauge than an attempt at completely non-biased comparisons, since you do have to use it and that is a personal experience.

I've been a long time Mac Fan, but have been using Windows forever, but I'm a bigger Linux fan than either of them. So, the fact that the OS underneath the Mac is a version of Linux is a big plus to me. That's my bias info.

So, perhaps the fact that you can't find many fence sitters is a very telling story in itself. Perhaps, once you've experienced the Mac, you become a convert?

I've promised myself that my next computer would be a Mac; but I haven't bought it yet.
