Odds makers?? 2007/03/13 16:42
i dont know if this has been posted before but is anyone her an odds maker, or know an odds maker,, or at least know the process they go through to make the lines..... i think i would be interesting to see how they go about this or what stats/system they use, because in most cases most of the vegas places and websites come up with similar lines...i am sure everyone would be interested and this is prob a stupid question, but with as many gamblers/cappers on here i figured maybe someone or someones friend may had worked for a book in the past

Hey guys -

I have visited the LVSC and discussed with them the process by which they make the odds. As tiblet87 noted in the ESPN article, this is pretty much the way they are set.

The interesting piece that I noticed was they they run paper based models in 3 ring binders...not even complex sims using computers. I could not believe my eyes when I saw that.

One item to remember is that they do not actually set the lines at the books, but they send their lines to the books who modify it to be closer to the actual points scoring systems in each league, NFL scores in 3, 6, 7 etc. Also, once the lines are posted, the money moves the line to accomodate for equal money (not equal number of bets) on each side so that in essence, the bookmaker is like a bank that gets 5-10% interest per game on total $ wagered. Pretty interesting considering they are not FDIC insured (haha).

Good luck with March Madness and enjoy!
