It's Never Too Early for NCAA Football 2007/07/22 01:47
Just starting to look over college football for the coming season. Wanted to know if anyone had a system that worked for them?

Last season I would bet on games that met 3 requirements:

1. The public was betting over 60% against my pick
2. StatShark agreed with my pick with a 55% or greater prediction
3. StatShark had a good history with the two teams involved.

It was a pretty basic system that combined StatShark's best selections and the picks that the public wasn't pounding.

I also found that StatShark did very well with the smaller conferences like the Sun Belt, WAC, Mtn West, MAC, etc. My theory on this is that the majority of people will bet on the games in the ACC, Big 10, Pac 10, and other big conferences. Because of this, the oddsmakers will spend more time on these lines and less on the lines for a Sun Belt conference match up.

I just recently bought Phil Steele's College Football guide and have been flipping through it at no specific order. Right now USC seems like the team to beat. John David Booty has a good shot at the Heisman Trophy this season, although the one weakness for USC will be receivers, as they lost their top two to the draft.

Hawaii was one of my favorite teams to bet on last season, and they'll only get better this season. Colt Brennan could have gone to the draft, but returned and is a big possibility for the Heisman trophy. His top 3 receivers also return, which only helps him. In 2006, Brennan completed 72.6% of his 559 passes, throwing for 5549 yards, with a 58-12 TD-INT split. This was starting 10 out of 12 games for Hawaii. Hawaii usually is favored by 30-40, but they blow their opponents out of the water. The O/U is usually around 70, and it usually goes over. This season they might go undefeated, as their tough matchups are at home, which is a severe disadvantage for the visiting team that has to play on Hawaii time at night.

At some point (probably starting this week) I'm going to sit down and read the magazine from cover to cover. I highly recommend it, as from what I've read so far it has been great, and it has been the most accurate pre-season magazine in the last few years.

Scorp,

Funny, I just bought Phil Steele's magazine yesterday. I think it's a good source for info. Just started looking at it. Hawaii was good to me last year too. Looking forward to seeing what Colt Brennan can do this year. I also stay away from the Big 10, but mostly it is because I live in Ohio and am a Big OSU fan. (Please don't mention the Florida loss). My rule is to never bet on your favorite team. Clouds your judgement.

I will be using SS for College and Pro Football. I look forward to seeing your posts on both.

Thanks for the imput.

NO THIS IS NOT KEITH JACKSON, IT'S COACH BOB, AND FOR THE RECORD I HAVE BEEN A HUGE FAN OF THE WORK OF PHIL STEELE FOR SOME TIME NOW, I HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO HIS POWER SWEEP NEWSLETTER SINCE 1996, AND UNLIKE MOST SPORTS SERVICES, THEY DO NOT CALL YOU WITH THEIR 50,000 * GAME OF THE DECADE EVERY WEEK.THEY HAVE 2 WEBSITES,philsteele.com and ncsports .com, IF I AM OFF ON THAT EXACTLY, JUST GOOGLE UP PHIL STEELE,AND THEY WILL GET U THERE.
THERE IS 1 EARLY SEASON SYSTEM THAT MAKES A TON OF SENSE, PLAY AGAINST ANY TEAM WITH A STARTING FR, RFR, OR SO. (EVERYBODY GOT THAT) PLAYING ON THE ROAD IN SEPTEMBER IN HIS 1ST START AWAY FROM HOME,ADD IN A REVENGE FACTOR, AND YOU HAVE A TREMENDOUS CASE FOR PENN STATE @ HOME VS. NOTRE DAMESEPTEMBER8 AT STATE COLLEGE,
.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL, WITH MORE TALK AS WE GET CLOSER TO SEPTEMBER!!!
