I want to be candid with everyone. I have not been a huge Fantasy Football player over the years. I should say, I have not been into it as much as my friends and colleagues. You might be asking yourself, “why does Josh have a weekly piece on a Fantasy Sports site?” Good question. I didn’t play much Fantasy over the years because I have been concentrating on my sports wagering. It is a weekly investment that I have been investing in for the past decade. I also focus more on college football than I do the NFL. However, I have say that after Week 1 and being in a weekly Fantasy league through FanDuel.Com, I am all in on Fantasy.
The league is a group of friends that I have known for years, my dad and brother and a couple of others and it was so much fun on Sunday to track stats, talk trash to everyone and get caught up in the world of Fantasy Football. I can now say this: I am all in.
Here is my lineup from Week 1 and I have to say that RotoExperts.com and the Xclusive Edge Package (now available at an In-Season Price) helped carve out a winning lineup for Week 1.
I went with Carlos Hyde because I wanted to back up what I wrote about him the last couple of weeks. While he didn’t light up the scoreboard, he did manage to score more points that my other running back, rookie Christian McCaffrey from Carolina. I get now why so many people questioned where I put Carlos Hyde on my draft board, but I don’t think you can still go to sleep on Hyde just yet. You can go to sleep on San Francisco however, they are a mess. Also a mess, the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants. I don’t think I will take a Saint or a Giant all season long. The offenses of both teams are atrocious. Especially up front.
The Giants managed just 3 points on Sunday against the Cowboys and the Saints hit 19 points, but no one stood out from that team. So my opinion is to just stay away from both the Giants and the Saints.
So that lineup that you see above led me to a quick Week 1 victory and one of the best things, for me about the weekly league is that I now get to draft an entirely different team. I don’t have to worry about David Johnson being out for 3 months. I don’t have be upset about injuries, I get to look at every available player and pick the best possible team with my allotted bankroll. This is the kind of Fantasy league for me. So with that said, here is what I have lined up for Week 2 of the NFL Slate.
Josh Mathews is enjoying DFS Fantasy Football.
Sam Bradford looked like a stud on Monday night against New Orleans, Tom Brady will look like the GOAT that he is on against that same defense. Tommy Touchdown will put up eye-popping numbers in Week 2.
I spent more than I wanted on Le’Veon Bell than I thought I would for a second pick, but I am happy with C.J. Prosise at 5,200. The reason there is because Seattle is coming off a tough loss to Green Bay where the offense was throttled and Seattle can let loose a bit against San Francisco.
Can Tyreek Hill play over his head for a second straight week? Look, I had Kansas City +9 against New England, wish I took them straight up, but at +9 I was confident and the Chiefs rolled, I will double down on Kansas City this weekend and Hill in a shootout against Philadelphia.
How about Giorgio Tavecchio? A sudden star! Tavecchio was not only named the AFC Special Teams Player of the week, but he was 4-4 in Field Goals, 2-2 in extra points and he managed to drill two 52 yard field goals against my Titans. I will take that all day.
Speaking of the Raiders, I thought Carr looked to Crabtree enough to put him on my roster for a second week in a row and I’ll take 10-15 points from him.
The Vikings Defense has me a little concerned against Pittsburgh and honestly, I might make a change before Sunday. However, I am confident with the rest of my team for Week 2.
I would love to hear your thoughts on what I have going on. Send me a tweet @RealJoshMathews and I will be sure to answer!
Good luck to everyone this weekend!
