Waterloo’s Thoughts

Catcher is a complete and utter wasteland. The top three at the position won’t change this year, and there’s not a player that can make an out-of-nowhere impact like Gary Sanchez did his rookie yet unless the Indians call up Francisco Mejia soon … The humidor has hurt Paul Goldschmidt, but I’m not ready to give up on him quite yet as the top player at his position … Matt Adams is on a tear right now, but unless he’s guaranteed almost everyday at-bats, he’s not a true Fantasy mainstay. That’s not going to happen in Washington … Jed Lowrie gets a big boost in my ranks. It’s never been about the talent for Lowrie. His only issue has been health throughout his career. If he stays healthy, he’s a Top 15 option at the position … Ian Happ isn’t on the right team to struggle. There are too many options to replace him. His two home runs Monday were nice, but there’s too much swing-and-miss in his game to sustain high value … There’s no need to panic about Alex Bregman. His peripherals are very similar to what he was doing last year. He’s the ultimate buy … Speaking of buys, Justin Turner should be back in action very shortly. It’s your last chance to get him at a fair price … I’ve been vocal saying that Didi Gregorius is a sell high, and high is the keyword there. But if not, his splits are real, my friends. Playing half his games at Yankee Stadium gives him a Coors Field-like advantage over his competition … I don’t care if it’s shiny toy syndrome. Ronald Acuna Jr. is a Top 15 outfielder right now. He’s continuing to take every new level he goes to by storm … Jorge Soler still has his warts, but his improved eye at the plate and power potential makes him a must-own outfielder in all 12-team leagues and larger … Zack Godley was my favorite Arizona breakout pitcher in the preseason, and he’s been fine so far, but it’s Patrick Corbin that’s been the showstopper thus far. He’s a Top 20 pitcher the rest of the way … Luis Castillo was going too high in drafts, and owners haven’t seen return on that investment. It’s unlikely they will, either, but his velocity is still elite, even if it’s lower than last year, and his changeup is one of the best pitches in baseball still.
