Jordan Spieth $11,600
In his young career, Jordan Spieth has already finished in first and second in this tournament. He’s a threat to win any tournament any week, so why not take him when the stakes are at their highest? The bigger the moment the better he plays. Spieth led the Tour this year in Par 4 scoring and strokes gained: approach, he’s a perfect fit for this course as his results here prove.
Dustin Johnson $11,400
I’m going with the chalk as far as pricing goes. Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth faced off in an epic showdown to start the FedEx Cup playoffs, and I predict that they’ll end the season that way too. Johnson will bomb the ball around this course making the incredibly long par 4s playable for himself. He ranked fifth in Par 4 scoring and strokes gained: approach, and first in strokes gained: off-the-tee. Johnson has never won this tournament, but he certainly knows how to play here, he’s finished inside the top six his last three times at East Lake.
Charley Hoffman $7,300
Charley Hoffman has had arguably his best year as a Tour Pro this year. He tends to play well in strong field events and has finished in the Top 10 at East Lake before. He ranked 15th in Par 4 scoring and 13th in strokes gained: off-the-tee this season. He ranked number one last week at the BMW in strokes gained approach. His swing has been in great form his putter just let him down last week. A bad week putting is a much easier thing to turn around than a bad weak swinging the club. Hoffman will shake that bad week with the flat stick and come out with a respectable showing.
Daniel Berger $6,900
Daniel Berger has had a great season that included a win and a playoff loss to Jordan Spieth. He’s been one of the best ball strikers all year long and one of the best par 4 players as well. He had similar issues to Hoffman as he struck the ball very well last week, but ranked 64th out of 70 in strokes gained: putting. Berger has gained strokes putting on average all year long, so that’s something that you can almost guarantee will improve this week.
Gary Woodland $6,400
Gary Woodland has had some solid showings at East Lake in his career. He finished T-10 last season and T-9 in 2014. Woodland is one of the longest hitters on Tour giving himself a big advantage on the majority of holes. He ranks 15th this season in strokes gained: approach, and 30th in Par 4 scoring. Woodland flies under the radar most of the time, and he may do that again this week, but he should be able to finish in the top half of the field.
Kyle Stanley $6,300
Kyle Stanley is new to the Tour Championship scene which makes him the sleeper of all sleepers this week. Stanley has consistently been one of the best ball strikers on Tour, and one of the worst putters. His ball striking is so good that it keeps him within the top half of the field more than three-quarters of the time. Stanley will be low-owned and could be a great play for GPPs this week. His putter just needs to be average for him to have a good week.
