College Basketball Analyst Picks - Feb 22

By Jonathan Lee

Kentucky won its 19th straight game Tuesday beating Mississippi State by 9 on the road.  The game could be seen in one of two ways.  The first saw the Cats fall down big during the first half, and required a late game comeback against an unranked team that had already lost three straight games.  The other saw Kentucky play a terrible half of basketball, and then in a blink of an eyefind the fortitude to pull away late against a team with two NBA caliber post players and a star senior point guard.  I tend to see the game as the latter as Kentucky is the clear favorite heading into March.

John Calipari has his best team during his tenure at Kentucky with players that appear to be much more mentally tough and cohesive than in years past.  He gets the game-changing defensive presence of Anthony Davis every time out plus the grit and effort from Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.  That helps offset the ups and downs of mercurial sophomore Terrence Jones and freshman point guard Marquis Teague.

Ten top-25 games are scheduled for Wednesday and 58 overall.  I have four picks for AccuScore members.
