Danny Granger Injury Analysis

Danny Granger is reportedly out 4-6 weeks with what the Pacers have diagnosed as a torn right plantar fascia.

Playing much of the season on what was described as a bruised heel, Granger was posting career high numbers in minutes, threes made and attempted, free throws made and attempted, steals, and rebounds while scoring 24.4 points a night.  The next highest scorer for Indiana is currently Dahntay Jones at 15.5 points who is not known for his offense.  The loss of Granger will put much more pressure on the recently returned Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy.

With a healthy Granger, AccuScore projected the Pacers to win 37 games with a 39% chance of making the playoffs.  Only six teams in the Eastern Conference currently have a playoff probability of at least 60%.  Indiana was in the middle of a jumble of teams including Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Charlotte, and Washington competing for the final two spots in the postseason.

Prospectus injury expert Will Carroll tweeted today however that “his season’s in jeopardy.”  If Granger were to miss the rest of the season, Indiana’s full season projection would drop to just 31 wins and a 20% chance at the postseason.
