| The Truth About Week Two |
|
After calling the breakout weeks of Michael Turner and Willie Parker last week, AccuScore's Tim Williams is back with the truth about week two: Jason Campbell will score more points than Donovan McNabb.
I’ve had cable for the entire time I’ve played fantasy sports, which means that my viewing options have been limited to about two games a week. This year I got DirecTV, the NFL package, and the Super Fan package, which allows you to watch eight games at once. Let’s just say it is a complete 180 from the former set up. My wife and I have an agreement. In exchange for me reading her favorite series of books about a woman bounty hunter, she has to play fantasy football this year, and give it a real shot, which means setting her lineups, making waiver wire additions, watching the games, and actually reading my articles. The problem with our agreement is that she hates the Game Mix channel. She says it is hard to focus on one game when there are seven other games surrounding that one game. I don’t see the problem, although I’ve had plenty of practice, watching eight baseball games at a time all season on the MLB Game Mix channel. My wife insists that when a lot of things are going on at once, women try to focus on all of these things, while men can drown everything out and focus on the thing that interests them most. Or it was something like that, I’m not sure. I was focused on Willie Parker running for his third touchdown of the day. I spent $100 on the Super Fan package, which is in addition to the NFL package. It looks like I will get about eight minutes worth of action from that channel this season, which means that I know exactly how all of you Tom Brady owners feel after investing a first round pick in your quarterback, only to see him go down for the season early in the first quarter. My only hope is to phase the Game Mix channel in as the season goes on, which may have a better shot of success compared to the chance of success from teams who had Tom Brady on their fantasy teams. The Truth About Week Two AccuScore projected points in parenthesis. -Jason Campbell (15.3) will score more points this week than Donovan McNabb (14.9). The Cowboys held Cleveland to 114 passing yards, and will limit McNabb this week, while Campbell will bounce back against a Saints defense that allowed over 200 passing yards and a touchdown to Jeff Garcia, a feat that happened just four times last season. -Carson Palmer (12.7) will struggle again this week, and will barely be a top 20 quarterback. -Aaron Rodgers (16.8) will repeat his solid performance from week one, and will once again be a top five fantasy quarterback against the Lions this week. This game he will throw for at least 250 yards and two touchdowns. -The following quarterbacks are not going to be top 12 performers this week: Matt Hasselbeck (13.6), Brett Favre (13.2), Derek Anderson (12.8), and Matt Cassel (12.1). -The following running backs will score more points than LaDainian Tomlinson (15.4) this week: Brian Westbrook (15.5), Ryan Grant (15.6), Marion Barber (15.9), Frank Gore (16.1), Brandon Jacobs (16.2), and Adrian Peterson (18.6). -Week one breakouts that will struggle in week two: Reggie Bush (10.2), Marshawn Lynch (10.2), Kevin Smith (10.7), Matt Forte (10.9). -Running back bust of the week: Joseph Addai (10.6). -Kenny Watson (5.2) will once again run for more yards per carry than Chris Perry (9.9), and might win the starting job this week. Neither would be a good starting option. -Michael Turner (12.1) will follow up his strong week one with another solid week, making him a must start. Jerious Norwood (6.5) will not have a similar week as week one, and can be left on your bench. -Maurice Jones-Drew (15.2), Larry Johnson (15.1), and Steven Jackson (15) will all bounce back from their week one slumps to be top 12 performers this week. -Andre Johnson (12.6) will once again catch the most passes in the NFL this weekend. -Brandon Marshall (10.1) will return to be a top 12 receiver option, thanks to the presence of Eddie Royal (9.7) in the lineup. Royal will be a solid number two option this week. -Wide Receivers that AccuScore likes a lot more than I do this week: Braylon Edwards (11), Torry Holt (9.4), Marvin Harrison (8.9), and Chad Johnson (8.7). Edwards goes up against a Steelers defense that did a good job shutting him down last year. Holt is the only receiver in St. Louis, and will see way too much coverage. I just don’t like Marvin Harrison and Chad Johnson, for no reason other than Harrison is old, and Johnson can’t translate “85” in Spanish. -If you’re looking for a sleeper wide receiver this week, go with one of these top 36 options: David Patten (7.9), Devery Henderson (7.8), Reggie Brown (7.4), Antonio Bryant (6.9), DeSean Jackson (6.6), Derrick Mason (6.3). Of the list, I like Patten the best. He’s also my answer to “Which Saints receiver would you pick up to replace Colston?” -Sleeper tight end of the week: Tony Scheffler (6). Scheffler goes up against a Chargers defense that allowed eight catches, 100 yards and a touchdown to Carolina tight ends last week. Also, Brandon Marshall’s return, combined with the breakout performance by Eddie Royal last week, will give Scheffler a lot of room to work with. -Dante Rosario (7.5) and Anthony Fasano (7.8) are the real deal. Each will be top 12 options again this week. The only thing that held Rosario out of the lineup last year was his blocking. With that corrected, he is the top receiving tight end in Carolina, and without Steve Smith for one more week, will see a lot of targets. Fasano benefits from Chad Pennington’s weak arm. Pennington completed 12 passes to his tight ends last week, and with Fasano being the top option, he will get the most catches. -The Cardinals (15.3) will once again be a sleeper defensive unit, scoring more points than top defenses like the Titans (10.6), Packers (14.4), Bears (9), Eagles (6.6), Steelers (10.2), Ravens (14.6), and Patriots (10.8). The Cardinals are recording two turnovers and three sacks against the Dolphins defense. -Defensive bust of the week: the Philadelphia Eagles (6.6) ranked 31st in AccuScore simulations. -The following waiver wire defenses will be top 12 units in week two: NY Jets (14.3), Oakland (13.4), Houston (12.8), and Kansas City (11.3). The Chiefs are my favorite from that list. |
