This mock draft took place on Thursday, August 21st at MockDraftCentral.com. For an explanation of my draft strategies in PPR leagues, check out my Draft Strategy article. League Settings: PPR Scoring, 12 teams, Positions: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, D/ST, K, Bench (x7)
My Pick: I usually go with a solid running back option in the first round of a PPR league, and I love the value of Barber with this pick. According to AccuScore forecasts, only four running backs will have more rushing yards and receptions than Barber this year, and all four went in the top six picks. Round Notables: I wouldn’t take Frank Gore in a regular draft, but in a PPR league, with Mike Martz as his offensive coordinator, I think Gore is a solid pick.
My Pick: I passed on Ryan Grant, who has similar AccuScore projections as Marion Barber, in favor of Reggie Wayne. I’m not high on Marvin Harrison this year, so I think Wayne will be one of the top receivers in the league behind Moss. Round Notables: I wouldn’t take a quarterback this high in a PPR draft, especially with the talented receivers that are on the board. Edwards and Houshmandzadeh will provide better value than Peyton Manning will in the early second round.
My Pick: Welker is my favorite PPR wide receiver, and a steal in the late third round. AccuScore forecasts have Welker finishing with the second most receptions this season, with Welker catching 110 passes, two shy of his total last season. Round Notables: Reggie Bush and Earnest Graham are two running backs that I give a boost in PPR leagues. I would have taken one of them if they fell to me.
My Pick: Normally I like to have two running backs and two wide receivers by this point, but I couldn’t pass up having three solid receivers in a PPR league. I also didn’t like the running backs that were available, and I didn’t want to take a quarterback yet. A lineup of Wayne, Welker, and Boldin, with Barber as my primary running back, sounds pretty good to me. Round Notables: Witten is the only tight end I would take in the early rounds in a PPR league. AccuScore has him projected for 92 receptions, 1129 yards, and seven touchdowns.
