Sanity returned to college football this past week.  For the first time in three weeks, number 2 did not lose, although it was close.  For the first time this season college football fans did not have to call their buddies to ask if that score was for real.

Also, what’s for real, this week’s Accuscore College Football Top Ten.  Thanks to South Florida, USC and Virginia Tech going down, we have some newcomers in the polls.

10) Georgia – Formerly known as "The World’s Largest Cocktail Party" was a celebration for the Bulldogs.  Georgia took advantage of a banged up Tim Tebow and made every attempt to pressure the Heisman Hopeful.  The Bulldogs rank at number 10 in this week’s poll for the win in Jacksonville and their victory over Alabama earlier in the year.  Once again, however, the SEC continues to eliminate each other from BCS talks, there are no undefeated teams left in the conference and just one one-loss team.   I do have to take offense to Mark Richt pumping up the team by celebrating the ‘Dogs first touchdown the way they did.  There is no place in sports for that type of display.

9) Kansas – Although the Jayhawks continue to feast on lesser opponents, you have to give Kansas credit for getting this far unblemished.  Kansas’ only ranked victory is over a now-known overrated Kansas State team.  The Jayhawks are doing it with defense, currently ranked fifth in the nation.  Three out of the last four games will be the true test for Kansas to see if they have the goods to be a contender in the BCS.  The Jayhawks face Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Missouri.

8) Hawaii – While Kansas may be ranked higher than Hawaii in the other polls, the Warriors find themselves a spot below Kansas here because if the two teams faced off, I think Hawaii would come out the victor.  Yes it’s true the Warriors have the weakest schedule in college football, but the same thing said for Kansas goes for Hawaii, when you get through two months of football with no losses, that’s saying something.  Everyone knows about Colt Brennan and the offense, but the big surprise is their defense which has scored 9 touchdowns this year.  Currently, Hawaii ranks 38th on defense and second on defense.  If they run the table, watch out, that’s all I’m going to say.

7) West Virginia – Another team to look out for is West Virginia.  The Mountaineers are back putting up big numbers after a convincing victory over Rutgers in New Jersey.  If Connecticut can run the table, it sets up a huge game Thanksgiving weekend between the two Big East foes.  Things are looking up for West Virginia as either Oregon or Arizona State will go down this weekend. Oklahoma still faces a Big 12 North representative in the conference championship game (given they get through the rest of the regular season unscathed).  Boston College has Florida State this weekend and the ACC championship game.  In other words, anything can happen.

6) Oklahoma – The Sooners moved down in this week’s ranking because Arizona State’s victory over Cal, and Oregon taking care of USC.  Sometimes it hurts to be idle.

5) Arizona State – The Sun Devils made the biggest improvement this weekend because of their victory over Cal.  It only gets tougher for ASU, as they face Oregon, UCLA, USC and Arizona in consecutive weeks, if they run the table, they deserve to be in the national championship game as the undefeated champion in the second toughest conference.

4) Oregon – The Ducks dropped some key components the last few weeks but still continue to impress.  After averaging nearly 50 points in the first 9 weeks of the season, Oregon showed some defensive prowess by holding USC to 17 points.  The same goes for Oregon as Arizona State, if they win out, and win the Pac-10, they deserve to be in the national championship game, not just the Rose Bowl.

3) Boston College – As you have all probably heard by now, Boston College looked awful for 55 minutes.  The Eagles couldn’t move the ball and Matt Ryan couldn’t stay on his feet.  Virginia Tech rushed only four all night and continuously got to Ryan, making life one big sack party.  Then, for no particular reason, the Hokies took their own fans out of the game by going to a prevent defense, giving up a score.  Then to make matters worse, a successful onside kick, and a very tired defense looked like puddy in the BC signal caller’s hands on the last drive of the game. Final result, BC stays undefeated.  Not to take anything away from Ryan, he looked great on the last two drives, but Virginia Tech gave the game away.

2) LSU – Saban Bowl should be a doosey, but the Tigers have done nothing to disprove their place at number 2.  They are the best team in the SEC and that alone should give them a national championship berth.

1) Ohio State – Buckeye fans, I’m sorry.  Since the beginning of the season I have been bagging on the Big 10.  I have said Ohio State didn’t deserve the number one ranking for playing every cupcake Ohio school.  Although I still believe the Big 10 to be the 6th best conference in America, I will say this.  Ohio State looked like a true blue national championship contender Saturday night.  The most impressive part of Ohio State’s 37-17 drubbing of Penn State, Todd Boeckman and the Buckeye offense.  It looked like a man against boys’ scenario with Penn State’s defense completely, and excuse the pun, defenseless against the Buckeye offense.  Chris Wells looked more like Eddie George than Maurice Clarett, and the defense looked as good as promised.  Now, the true test, was Penn State a true #25 team?  We will find out as Ohio State closes the season with the Big 10 elite.  Nothing’s for certain, although an Ohio State championship berth is getting closer and closer to being a reality.

I’ll be honest, I’m not looking forward to a Boston College-Ohio State national championship game, but in a season where everything has been impossible to predict, it would make perfect sense for the final game to involve two teams that no one expected.

it is not Hawaii's fault that no one will play them! mich state paid $250k to back out of this years game! a few years back Texas pulled out...

the closing stretch of Hawaii's season will tell us if they are deserving of BCS. Boise , Nevada, Fresno, Washington!!!

Ohio state needs to be tested also. the Big 10 stinks this year!

Actually, the Cocktail Party Game was in Jacksonville at a neutral site, as it has been for some years now; and NOT at The Swamp.
