High 5 Low 5 - 01/21/08 Print E-mail
Keith Puckett - AccuScore Analyst

Who said the NBA is filled with Generation X players that have no respect for the old school? Where are all the throw back players that remind us of the players we grew up watching as kids? As the season creeps to its midway point, the question is “who can I pick up where I know exactly what I am going to get, night in and night out?

This week’s “High Five/Low Five” isolates the hard working, blue collar players that are the foundation for a winning fantasy team. All players below are efficient players that will be the cornerstone of a good year to year team.  Enjoy.

PG  Jason Terry (DAL)
The last three years it is hard to argue Jason Terry hasn't been one of the most consistent guards in fantasy basketball. Each of the last three years he has played 80 plus games while shooting over 47 percent from the field and over 41 percent from downtown. To top it off he shoots over 80 percent from the free throw line. He averages over 15 points, gets you a steal and hands out almost 4 assists. Whatever format you play the “Jett” is always ready for take off.

SG Richard Hamilton (DET)
Rip can flat out score. He does it all day with mid range jumpers, getting open shots running through screens set by Rushed Wallace and Tasman Prince. His nine year career average is 45 percent from the field, 85 percent from the line, 18 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and almost a steal a game. He brings this night in and night out and rarely misses a game.

SF Antwan Jamison (WAS)
He is not the classic 20/10 guy, but he is as close as you can get without being one. His numbers are right there. He scores right around 20 a game and 9 rebounds, hits a three. Gets a steal. Great from the field and the stripe. He has played all 82 games five times in his career so games played in never a concern. On and off the court Antwan is a class act and he deserves to be recognized for it.

PF Elton Brand (LAC)
If only he didn't play for my hometown Clippers. Elton is a star, but on a team like the Lakers or the Knicks, Elton would be the brightest of stars. He is the classic Karl Malone clone. He shows up to work and you know what you will get night in and night out. To say Elton Brand is as consistent as running water would be an understatement. 20 and 10 night in and night out on bad teams has always been the curse that Elton has had to deal with. My hats off to you, Elton! You are a class act.

C Tim Duncan (SAS)
He is so good it's boring. People do not even tune in to watch because they already know what is going to happen. Case in point is last year's finals. Everyone knew who was going to win because Duncan has been there, done that, three time before. First ballot and he has not even hit 35 yet. If Duncan plays at the level he is at until he is 35, there is a case to be made he could be one of the best players of all time. I already believe he is. You can hate on the Spurs and you can hate on TD, but you cannot hate on what they have accomplished since Tim took over Mr. Robinson's neighborhood.
